Refrigerated transport – temperature ranges and how it works

Temperature-controlled transport covers three main ranges: frozen at −18 °C and below, chilled from 0 to +4 °C for meat, dairy, fruit and vegetables, and controlled ambient +15 to +25 °C for chocolate, beverages, cosmetics and most pharmaceuticals. Our reefer trucks and vans have units that hold the set temperature regardless of the outside conditions and temperature recorders – on request you receive the printout for the whole trip.

What we carry under temperature control

• Fresh and frozen food – meat, fish, dairy, fruit and vegetables, ready meals, ice cream.
• Pharmaceuticals and medical supplies requiring +2…+8 °C or +15…+25 °C, with a temperature record for GDP documentation.
• Cosmetics, wine and beverages, chocolate and confectionery that must not freeze or overheat.
• Flowers and plants, seeds and planting material.

Reefer groupage or a dedicated truck

On the lines to Greece, Romania, Germany and Italy refrigerated shipments also travel as groupage – from one pallet, at the same temperature as the other goods in the truck. For different regimes, frozen goods or an urgent delivery we arrange a dedicated reefer truck (33 pallets) or a refrigerated van for smaller batches. A reefer trailer takes 1–2 pallets fewer than a standard one because of the thicker walls – keep it in mind when planning a full load.

What refrigerated transport requires from you

• The goods must be pre-cooled to the transport temperature – the unit maintains temperature, it does not cool a warm load.
• State the exact temperature and the allowed deviation in the request and on the CMR consignment note (box 13 – sender’s instructions).
• Packaging must allow air circulation – no tight film down to the pallet floor for chilled products.
• For food of animal origin and pharmaceuticals the certificates and documents required by the consignee travel with the goods.
